IOH Celebrates Brain Injury Awareness Month – Week 4

Institutes Of Health is proud support Brain Injury Awareness Month and stand with the concussion community to break down stigma and empower those who have survived traumatic brain injuries. Each week in March, we raised awareness for one of the most common, yet least understood, forms of injury-related disability, a traumatic brain injury.

WEEK 4: A concussion is classified as a traumatic brain injury? Concussions cause changes in the brain’s chemical and electrical system that largely are not revealed by MRI or CT scans. Some symptoms may be obvious such as headaches, vision changes, nausea and vomiting. Others such as increased anxiety and depression, sleep disturbance and difficulty concentrating may seem unrelated but are common symptoms of concussion.
